Histological assessment of the efficiency of rabbit serum in healing skin wounds

Abstract: Aim:This study aimed to investigate the impact of rabbit serum on skin wound healing with the help of histological examination.Materials and Methods:A total of ten indigenous rabbits were used in this study. The animals were divided into two groups: control and serum- treated. The histological assessment was done with a paraffin embedding technique and the histological sections were stained with H&E stain. Results:Severe infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes with severe fibrin deposits were seen in serum… Show more

“…In our study, mononuclear inflammatory cells were found in PRF-injected areas versus the untreated donor site which was in line with results discovered by other authors [17,18]. In addition, mature thick collagen fibers were seen well organized in the dermis at the PRF-injected donor site, in contrast to the control donor location, where immature collagen fibers were commonly visible and this was in line with the findings of other researchers [17,18,21,22].…”

“…Angiogenesis promotes vascular permeability during wound healing. The permeability of the arteries allows various cytokines and growth factors to reach the injured area and stimulate angiogenic activity [18]. It has been observed that newly formed blood vessels could provide nutrients and oxygen which help collagen synthesis [21].…”

“…The healing process is made up of different phases, such as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling, in which the repair process requires the coordination of different cells, growth factors, and cytokines [ 4 , 5 ]. Skin wounds usually occur by accidental trauma such as burns, lacerations, or abrasions; which lead to complications in healing and infections [ 6 ]. Thus, adequate wound healing is essential for the restoration of interrupted anatomical continuity and altered functional status of the skin; but at the same time, it is sought that the treatment produces a rapid closure of the wound and a functional and esthetically satisfactory scar [ 7 ].…”

“…Histological and immunohistochemical methods are frequently preferred in determining the degree of healing in wound healing studies. [33][34][35][36]52] When the scoring results are evaluated in detail, it is predicted that the A. bruennichi-based spider silk has similar characteristics to the commercial surgical suture both in the early period after injury and in the advanced stages of healing, in terms of tissue response. According to this evaluation, the spider silk-based sutures in this study are considered to be suitable for surgical use.…”

“…The healing process in different groups was evaluated by semiquantitative scoring. [33][34][35][36] Five different fields were scored from each slide. Three different rats were used for each group (n = 3), and the data are reported as the average number of inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, and blood vessels for each group.…”
