Histological and histochemical studies on the oviduct microcirculation of the laying Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)

Abstract: The health of oviduct circulation is very important for normal egg production. The present work describes the histology and histochemistry of vessels of different types on the oviduct of quail. Arteria, venae and lymphatics of the oviduct were described clearly. In addition, special vascular elements were observed presenting circular, longitudinal and oblique smooth muscle fibres on the blood vessel wall. Glomus cells were observed at typical glomus vessels, atypical glomus vessels and on the wall of some of a… Show more

“…Quails show many advantages over other birds, as small birds grow easily and rapidly and are capable of egg production within 2 months of age (Soliman et al, 2016; El-Desoky & Mustafa, 2019). The spleen of birds is a very important immune organ in birds due to ill-developed lymph nodes and vessels in avian species (Kita, 2014).…”

“…The samples were processed for paraffin block preparation according to the methods of Soliman et al (2016); Soliman (2018 a , 2018 b ); Soliman & Abd-Elhafeez (2018); and El-Desoky & Mustafa (2019). The samples were dehydrated in 70% ethanol baths I, II, and III for 1 day in each bath; an 80% ethanol bath for 2 h; a 90% ethanol bath for 1 h; and 100% ethanol baths I and II for half an hour each.…”

“…Additionally, the PVS is considered another anatomical system similar to the blood and lymphatic systems but differs from them in some aspects (Kim et al, 2016; Noh, Rho, Yoo, Jung, & Lee, 2012; Soh, 2009). Regarding the vascular system, special types of blood vessels were newly discovered (El‐Desoky & Mustafa, 2019; Hussein, 2019). Although the lymphatic system is of great importance, until now, its structure network is not fully understood (Kim et al, 2016; Sevick‐Muraca, Kwon, & Rasmussen, 2014; Weiler, Kassis, & Brandon Dixon, 2012).…”
