Histamine involvement in the local and systemic microvascular effects produced by intradermal substance P

Abstract: The cutaneous microvascular changes produced by intradermal substance P were quantitatively evaluated in both substance P-injected and contralateral, saline-injected guinea pig ears. Substance P evoked a dose-dependent increase in cutaneous microvascular permeability in both treated and untreated ears which was reduced, but not abolished, by a mepyramine-cimetidine combination. This indicates that the local effect of substance P on microvascular permeability and the effect on the contralateral ear (presumably … Show more

“…Blood flow in the femoral artery (Hallberg and Pernow 1975) and skin of the dog (Burcher et al 1977) and rat ) is also augmented by intravenous administration of SP. Intradermal injection of SP enhances cutaneous blood flow in the guinea pig (Woodward et al 1985) but fails to change it in the rat dorsal skin Williams 1988, 1989). However, when perfused over a blister base in the rat footpad skin, SP causes hyperaemia , as does topical administration of SP to the hamster cheek pouch (Raud et at.…”
