Abstract: This article presents the case of a female patient with acromegaly caused by ectopic production of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) secretion. In the presence of typical clinical features of acromegaly but a lack of evidence for a pituitary adenoma the results of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy were indicative of a typical carcinoid of the lungs as the cause of the ectopic secretion of GHRH and the stimulation of pituitary gland growth hormone secretion resulting in acromegaly.
