Finally, we find little evidence of market rewards of aligning acute care practice and certification, which echo results of a study documenting the lack of influence NP alignment has on hiring decision in hospitals (Klein et al, 2020). Despite being twice as likely to be doctorally prepared and hold multiple NP certifications, those with acute care certification did not earn more than those with primary care certification.…”

Claims data are also problematic because the work of NPs is often obscured by "incident to" billing.…”

“…With increased awareness of NP practice in emergency care, concerns from nursing and medicine colleagues (Berlin, 2018;Greene, 2018;Klein, et al, 2020) have amplified the misalignment and confusion felt by regulatory bodies such as the State Boards of Nursing. The regulatory landscape for APRN licensure and specialty recognition is one of the most immediate concerns that was discovered.…”

“…Despite efforts to adopt uniform employment and credentialing standards for nurse practitioners (NPs), recent evidence indicates misalignment exists with the Consensus Model for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Regulation's ( 2008) recommendations (Klein et al, 2020). This impacts NPs working in emergency care settings.…”
