Abstract:Background
Cognitive aging is associated with impaired episodic memory formation (Small et al., 1999), which requires the neurocomputational process of pattern separation to disambiguate similar stimulus input. Pattern separation relies on the dentate gyrus (DG) (Yassa & Stark, 2011), a hippocampal subfield that is susceptible to age‐related change (Small et al., 2011). Cognitive aging is also associated with impaired performance on putative measures of behavioral pattern separation (Yassa et al., 2010), calle… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
