“…It should be noted that in 2013 a case report of an arthroscopically assisted procedure was described in which a less than 5‐cm incision was used with the same implant system . An open approach for implanting this device or others of similar nature to repair coxofemoral luxation has been described extensively . It should also be noted that a closed approach without intra‐articular guidance has also been described, but resulted in severe articular cartilage damage in greater than 20% of cases .…”

“…Possible advantages of open toggle rod repair of CFL are the creation of a prosthetic capital ligament that will possibly allow for rapid return to weight bearing on the affected limb and a low incidence of re‐luxation. Re‐luxation rates with toggle rod or related techniques have been reported and vary from 11%‐25% . Rapid return to weight bearing without the requirement for application of an Ehmer sling has been reported in multiple publications and can be especially important for patients with multitrauma or other orthopedic conditions, which are relatively common .…”

“…Additionally, the FiberWire suture used in this case is made up of a core of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene material with a braided outer layer of combined polyester and polyethylene fibers that has demonstrated greater strength, knot security, and resistance to bending abrasion failure than many other suture materials, including polyester [7, 8]. The technique performed in this case is similar to that reported for correction of stifle, hip, and shoulder joint instability in the dog [9–11] as well as for a variety of applications in humans.…”
