Highway Lane Change Assistant

Abstract: Abstmct-Increasing traffle on highways leads to more dangerous situations during lane changes. We propose a s y c tem which helps the driver avoiding some of these critical situations. The Htghwny Lane Change Assistant monitors the area behind and beside the own vehicle by vision "d radar sensors. If a dangerous object is detected in the neighbour-'ing lane, a warning is issued on e lane change. The system was tested by different drivers in different vehicles on German highways and showed reasonable, accepted … Show more

“…This seriously obstructs the traffic fluidity and results the road congestion or another accident. These traffic accidents can be simply avoided if vehicular network technology is enabled between vehicles (Toledo- Moreo, et al, 2009;De Sousa Vieira, et al, 2013;Ruder, et al, 2002;Yasmeen, et al, 2015). More importantly, live video streaming from trucks to the following vehicles increases driver's aware-ness about oncoming vehicles and it is helpful to the driver for any overtaking decision.…”

“…Although most attention was fascinated with the frontview obstacle and lane detection, some previous studies have attempted to solve the problem of blind spot detection (BSD) [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. Wong and Qidwai installed six ultrasonic sensors and three cameras to obtain the surrounding information of the host car.…”

“…The obtained data were then processed using fuzzy inference to forewarn the driver before the collision occurs [21]. Ruder et al adopted RADAR and image sensors to acquire the speed and position of the vehicle in the BSR [22]. Both [21,22] built the system architecture by integrating both cameras and other detection sensors.…”

“…The wheel was filtered with Type Filter and then the system could determine whether the vehicle exists or not. Ruder et al [8] designed a lane change assistance system with far range radar, side radar, and stereo vision. The sensor fusion and Kalman filter were used to track the vehicle stably.…”
