Highly stable naphthalene core based novel cleft-shaped strain molecule: influence of intermolecular H-bonding architectures

Abstract: High thermal stability of a 8 membered naphthalene core based fused nitrogen bridged 1,5-dioxocin is found to be due to the coexistence of several weak interactions. Catalytic property of this molecule for a condensation reaction is also explored.

“…29 It is worth pointing out that only few compounds of this type have been described in the literature and their method of synthesis is mainly based on the addition of a suitable aldehyde to ammonium acetate; in some cases before the addition of the aldehyde, an ester was added to functionalize the nitrogen atom. Such reactions were catalyzed either with b-naphthol and a benzoquinone derivative, 40 with concentrated sulfuric(VI) acid, 41 or proceeded without the addition of a catalyst at the increased temperature (boiling ethanol). 31 Another example of acid-catalyzed cyclization has been published very recently.…”

“…Today, development of biomolecular structures is generally based on supramolecules that include non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic effects and metal coordination bonds [1] [2] [3] [4]. Without a F. Sevin et al doubt, the most basic structures in origins of the chemical evolution are the nucleic acids.…”

“…13,[18][19][20] In addition, Saha and co-workers recently described structural investigations of a new naphthalene corebased, conformationally rigid, cleft-shaped 1,5-dioxocine that showed the significance of intermolecular classical and non-classical H-bonding interactions in the stabilisation of the molecule. 21 These interactions govern biological recognition processes, as well as supramolecular structures in biology and materials. 22,23 Furthermore, 1,5-dioxocines show remarkable catalytic activity in the Knoevenagel condensation reaction.…”
