Highly Size‐ and Shape‐Controlled Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles via a Templated Tollens Reaction

Abstract: A mild, facile one-step synthetic strategy for the preparation of size-and shape-controlled silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is presented. The high degree of size-and shape-control of these AgNPs is achieved by the use of triazole sugar ligands scaffolded by a central resorcinol ether core. Both the triazoles and the resorcinol ether core mediate the nucleation, growth, and passivation phases of the preparation of AgNP in the presence of the Tollens reagent as the silver source. Kinetic and 1H NMR titration data i… Show more

“…[20] This observation is in contrast to our previous study, [23] in which we showed that an increase in the number of reducing equivalents (i.e., increasing the number of reducing sugar units from two of 1 to four) did not result in the formation of smaller AgNPs.…”

“…[23] In an earlier study, we reported the utility of the Ag I -binding ligand 1 [ Figure 1 (a)] to form monodisperse and stable suspensions of spherical AgNPs [i.e., AgNP@(1)]. Our current mechanistic rationale for the formation of AgNP@ (1) .…”

“…2 shows UV-Vis spectra of the solutions containing GO and AgNPs at different mass ratios. The increase of absorption intensity at 400 nm, which is related to plasmon resonans effect is observed [12,19]. Plasmon resonance effect confirms course of reduction reaction of silver ions to the metallic silver.…”

“…The silver mirror reaction has been used to prepare Ag-NPs, silver surfaces and coreshell structure on substrates for extensive applications. [25][26][27][28][29][30] In this work, Ag-NPs were prepared in a single synthetic step on the Si substrate by a facile silver mirror reaction at room temperature without any capping agents and morphology driving seeds. , 30%) were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Beijing Company.…”
