Highly sensitive and selective SO2 MOF sensor: the integration of MFM-300 MOF as a sensitive layer on a capacitive interdigitated electrode

Abstract: This work reports on the fabrication of an advanced capacitive sensor based on a MFM-300 (In) MOF for the detection of SO2 at room temperature. The sensor revealed remarkable SO2 sensitivity down to 75 ppb with excellent stability and selectivity to other common gases/vapors.

“…[36] Separate capacitance measurements of MFM MOFs show that there is negligible NO 2 adsorption in the concentration range we study. [35] The imidazole-containing framework ZIF-8 did not respond to NH 3 (Figure S13, Supporting Information), but as described above,d oes respond to NO 2 .T hese responses are in agreement with the predictions of well-knownc hemical resistance rules. [37] The work-functionr esponse of MFM-300(In) to SO 2 and humidity is given in Figure S14 (Supporting Information).…”

“…As af inal demonstration of am etal-centric hypothesis, we test the carboxylate-containing MOF "MFM-300(In)". We choose this MOF because it has carboxylate linkersa nd hasb een reported to have good sensing properties in humidity, [35] suggesting it to be promising as ap ractical sensing material. MFM-300(In) responds to ab ase, NH 3 ,w hereas there was no response to NO 2 (Figure6)i n3%r elative humidity air.A lthough this exact system has not yet been studied in situ spectroscopically,a neutron diffraction studyo fM FM-300(Al) shows NH 3 binding occurring at the metal site.…”
