Electrochemical Determination of Serotonin Using Pre‐treated Multi‐walled Carbon Nanotube‐polyaniline Composite Electrode

In this study, the multiwalled carbon nanotube‐poly (aniline) (MWCNT‐PANI) composite is successfully deposited on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) by electropolymerization as an efficient and conventional route. The structural and chemical properties of the MWCNT‐PANI was investigated by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). After that, the electrochemical oxidation behavior of serotonin (5‐HT) in phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4) was examined using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Besides, the MWCNT‐PANI/GCE used for the detection of 5‐HT with linear concentration range (1.0×10−7–1.2×10−5 mol L−1), low limit of detection (3.3×10−8 mol L−1) under differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) conditions. The proposed electrochemical sensor based on MWCNT‐PANI is both time and cost effective, has good reproducibility, high selectivity as well as stability for 5‐HT determination. The developed composite electrode was used to detect 5‐HT in synthetic urine sample and satisfactory results were obtained with high recoveries.

Electrochemically deposited thin films yield high uniformity, a property which is quite vital to in the context of electrochromic coatings and devices. Tungsten oxide and polyaniline are two such materials that show superior electrochromic properties individually. However, when combined into a solid‐state device structure, they yield a device where the efficiency increases multi‐folds. This device combination, being thoroughly characterized in the domain of electrochromic parameters such as high switching speeds, rich color contrast and stability, was found to be an excellent complimentary electrochromic pair. The unique property of the said device is that it can reduce the transmission of wavelengths in the near infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, providing an edge over other such combinations. Besides, a four‐digit value of coloration efficiency makes this device stand out in the family of its contemporaries. Overall, the hybrid nature of the device prompts it to be an excellent combination indicating its high performance in terms of increased endurance and heat isolation capacity.This article is protected by copyright. Stress cardiomyopathy refers weakening of heart muscle due to the continuous stress. Generally, the severe status of stress cardiomyopathy has been revealed after damaging the muscles and measured by the physical changes in the heart system. To overcome this issue, biosensor can be used, which could eliminate the late identification stress cardiomyopathy. With biosensors, different stress markers such as epinephrine, dopamine, catecholamine, α‐amylase, norepinephrine, serotonin and cortisol have been identified by a wide range of developments. These biosensors are available from laboratory to industry at the ranges of nano to macrodevices. To merge with the identification of stress cardiomyopathy, the above strategies might be utilized properly and can aid to reduce the stress‐related problems. This overview gleaned the currently available biosensing methods and the associated biomarkers at various stages of the developments and implementations of stress cardiomyopathy.
