Highly Selective Detection of Nerve‐Agent Simulants with BODIPY Dyes

Abstract: Two chromo-fluorogenic probes, each based on the boron dipyrromethene core, have been developed for the detection of nerve-agent mimics. These chemosensors display both a color change and a significant enhancement of fluorescence in the presence of diethylcyanophosphonate (DCNP) and diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP). No interference from other organophosphorus compounds or acids has been observed. Two portable chemosensor kits have been developed and tested to demonstrate its practical application in real-time … Show more

“…145 Figure 32. 146 The reaction of the sensors to DCNP or DFP resulted in the phosphorylation of a hydroxyl group. Next, an intramolecular N-alkylation occurred to generate a five-membered-ring quaternary ammonium salt in 159 and the corresponding morpholino cation in 160/161.…”

“…Further pursuing this work by maintaining alkaline pH≈10 with 3% Et3N in DMF, here, we build on our research efforts focusing on fluorescence sensors for DCP recognition ( Figure 1). In general, chromo/fluorogenic probes are composed of two units [59,60]: a receptor unit and a chromo-fluorogenic unit. Based on this structure, herein, we synthesized a rhodamine 6G derivative to act as a chromogenic and fluorogenic probe for the detection of DCP, a nerve agent simulant (Scheme 1), in the liquid and vapor phases.…”

“…Recently, methods for the detection of CWAs that utilize fluorescent and colorimetric sensors have attracted attention. [6] Theg oals of these efforts have been to enhance advantageous features of the sensors,i ncluding sensitivity, selectivity,a nd rapid response time,o ver those associated with costly conventional procedures. [7] However,i nc ontrast to numerous studies that have focused on the development of fluorescent sensors for nerve-gas agents, [8] only af ew have been targeted at the construction of those for phosgene detection.…”
