“…the YBCO texture is very sharp (< 5 • ) on single-crystal Ag, whereas it is higher (∼ 20 • ) for the polycrystalline Ag substrates of similarly broad in-plane grain misorientations. It has been previously reported that YBCO grown on cube-textured silver by physical vapour deposition (PVD) techniques at ∼700 • C show two inplane grain orientations, but only one in-plane orientation of (110) Ag [25,26]. Since after deposition at ∼900 • C, we find only one in-plane orientation on both (100) and (110) Ag, it is clear that the temperature of deposition plays a strong role in determining the epitaxy.…”

“…Ag may also be used for the next generation of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 tapes, since no buffer layer is required. Recent publications present the first promising results of in-plane aligned YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 thick film grown on textured silver [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. In-plane alignment has been obtained both on cube textured {100} 001 and on {110} 011 oriented substrates.…”

“…It is therefore very difficult to obtain a pure and sharp cube texture. So far, different authors have reported various notations of recrystallization texture in Ag after rolling and annealing [17,24,25]. No detailed systematic studies on the formation conditions and factors influencing the texture in Ag can be found.…”

“…It has been suggested that similarly textured silver could also be used for epitaxial growth of YBCO films. However, magnetron sputtered YBCO films on cube textured silver have not shown any significant in-plane texture [9]. On the other hand, YBCO grown by PLD has only shown a strong single in-plane alignment on ( I 10) oriented silver single crystals, although from a lattice matching point of view, it is unclear why ( 1 IO) is such a suitable orientation [IO].…”
