Highly Fluorinated Aromatic−Aliphatic Copolyethers

Abstract: A series of novel highly fluorinated aromatic−aliphatic copolyethers have been prepared by copolycondensation reactions of decafluorodiphenylsulfone (DFPSO) with hexafluorobisphenol-A (6F-BPA) and a highly fluorinated linear or branched diol (6CF-diol or 7bCF-diol) at different feed ratios of [diol]/[6F-BPA]. The reactions can be completed in 2−5 h in the presence of CsF in DMAc at room temperature to produce polymers with number average molecular weight (M n) up to 45 000 Da. 1H and 19F NMR studies show that … Show more

“…Some types of PAEK are transparent in the visible region and have been studied as optical materials. [13][14][15][16][17] PAEK is much more resistant to hydrolytic degradation than is poly(bisphenol A carbonate). Few syntheses of transparent nanocomposites with PAEK matrix have been reported.…”

“…We have modified fluoropolymers with the simple polyaddition of bis(epoxide)s with dicarboxylic acids and diols in the presence of quaternary onium salts and they exhibited a linear relationship between refractive indices and fluorine contents of the polymer. 4,5 Similar investigations have been conducted with fluorinated aromatic-aliphatic copolyethers, 6 fluorinated poly (phthalazinone ether)s 7 and hyperbranched fluorinated polyimides. 8 The relationship between the refractive index (n D ), density (r g cm À3 ), molecular weight (M g mol À1 ) and molecular refraction (R cm 3 mol À1 ) of a polymer is described by the Lorentz-Lorenz…”

“…A similar phenomenon was also reported for highly fluorinated aromatic-aliphatic copolyethers in one of our previous papers. 56 Characterizations. The thermal properties of the polymers have been characterized by DSC and TGA with the results summarized in Table 1.…”
