In this article, we report the preparation of conducting natural rubber (NR) with polyaniline (Pani). NR was made into a conductive material by the compounding of NR with Pani in powder form. NR latex was made into a conductive material by the in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of NR latex. Different compositions of Pani-NR semi-interpenetrating networks were prepared, and the dielectric properties of all of the samples were determined in microwave frequencies. The cavity perturbation technique was used for this study. A HP8510 vector network analyzer with a rectangular cavity resonator was used for this study. S bands 2-4 GHz in frequency were used. Thermal studies were also carried out with thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry.

Polyaniline (PANI) composite coatings were prepared by polymerising aniline (ANI) monomers, which were previously embedded in an insulator polymer matrix (PMMA, PVK or PS), in an atmosphere saturated with aqueous HCl–(NH4)2S2O8 solution. The optical spectra and electrical measurements of these coatings clearly show the formation of the emeraldine salt of PANI in the composite materials. Sheet resistance data as well as an SEM morphology study suggest a surface polymerisation of aniline in the PANI–PMMA and PANI–PS composite coatings, whereas a volumetric polymerisation of aniline is evident in the PANI–PVK samples. The low percolation threshold (pc) values of these coatings suggest a fibre structure of the PANI phase inside the composite materials. The curves of current versus temperature show a higher electrical property stability of the PANI–PVK composite coatings than of a PANI single film. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A composite based on polyaniline (PANI) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) with electrical conductivity was developed. Polyaniline was polymerized by chemical oxidation and doped with dodecyl-benzene-sulfonic acid (DBSA). PANI-LDPE composites were prepared via melt blending and the films were obtained by compression molding. The influence of three variables of the blending (temperature, [PANI], rotor speed) on conductivity, microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites was studied by means of statistical tools and a 2 3 experimental design. The results show that the PANI concentration is the most influential variable, which mainly affects the conductivity and the elongation at break of the composites. These changes are related to the microstructure of the composites. Statistically, the other variables don't show significant influence on conductivity and mechanical properties in the studied range.
