Highly efficient 355 nm UV generation with non-collinear phase-matching by a prism-coupled device based on CsLiB6O10

Abstract: We report 355 nm third-harmonic generation (THG) of UV light using CsLiB 6 O 10 (CLBO). To compensate for the walk-off angle in THG by Type II CLBO, we designed a prism-coupled device that takes advantage of non-collinear phase-matching. This new device, equipped with a Nd:YVO 4 laser source, achieved THG with 1.86 W at 47.6% conversion efficiency from the second-harmonic input. This result marks a 1.43-fold improvement over a conventional CLBO crystal, thus validating the effectiveness of the design for walk-… Show more

“…After years of active development, different types of nonlinear optical crystals have been studied in generating UV lasers, including KD 2 PO 4 (KDP), β-Ba 2 B 2 O 4 (BBO), LiB 3 O 5 (LBO), Na 3 La 9 O 3 (BO 3 ) 8 (NLBO), Ca 5 (BO 3 ) 3 F (CBF), CsB 3 O 5 (CBO), CsLiB 6 O 10 (CLBO), BaAlBO 3 F 2 (BABF) etc [23,[34][35][36][37][38][39]. Among these crystals, LBO is regarded as one of the most promising solutions for sum-frequencymixing (SFM) in high peak power UV lasers due to its high damage threshold (>25 GW cm −2 ).…”

“…Non-collinear phase-matching is effective for increasing the degree of overlap between these beams by compensating the walk-off effect. 21) As shown in Fig. 1(a), the design of non-collinear phase-matching in our is-OPG is depicted for parallel Poynting vectors of the pump and idler beams.…”
