Abstract: A cost-efficient catalyst for electrochemical water splitting is crucial to green hydrogen production. Ru has a much lower cost and only slightly stronger adsorption to the hydrogen intermediate (*H) than Pt, demonstrating great potential for catalyzing the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).
