Abstract: The minimal inhibitory concentration of an antimicrobial required to inhibit the growth of planktonic populations (minimum inhibitory concentration [MIC]) remains the ‘gold standard’ even though biofilms are acknowledged to be recalcitrant to concentrations that greatly exceed the MIC.
