Abstract:A new model for laser cutting is derived by asymptotic expansion techniques. The model describes the movements of the free boundaries of the melt flow and involves higher order expansion terms arising from impulse and energy balance as well as surface tension phenomena. Its stationary solution is derived and analyzed for stability. The stability is correlated to published numerical and experimental results for the cutting quality.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
