Higher Order Asymptotic Expansion Effects in Laser Cutting Modelling

Abstract: A new model for laser cutting is derived by asymptotic expansion techniques. The model describes the movements of the free boundaries of the melt flow and involves higher order expansion terms arising from impulse and energy balance as well as surface tension phenomena. Its stationary solution is derived and analyzed for stability. The stability is correlated to published numerical and experimental results for the cutting quality.
