Higher moments of nucleon spin structure functions in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and in a resonance model

Abstract: The third moment d 2 of the twist-3 part of the nucleon spin structure function g 2 is generalized to arbitrary momentum transfer Q 2 and is evaluated in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT) up to order O(p 4 ) and in a unitary isobar model (MAID). We show how to link d 2 as well as higher moments of the nucleon spin structure functions g 1 and g 2 to nucleon spin polarizabilities. We compare our results with the most recent experimental data, and find a good description of these available data with… Show more

“…Figure 13 compares the recent data of the JLab E94-010 Collaboration [117] for d n 2 (Q 2 ) to the predictions of MAID and heavy baryon ChPT [124]. The observed value of order 10 −3 is in agreement with theory.…”

“…The δ LT -puzzle was first observed in the HB variant of χPT [31,33,34], which invokes an additional semi-relativistic expansion, in the inverse nucleon mass. Evidently, this expansion works poorly for these quantities: compare the HB (blue dashed) curves, which only for δ LT [26].…”
