High-yield single-mode operation of 1.55μm strained-layer multi-quantum-well DFB lasers using mixed-index/gain-coupling structure

Abstract: Fabrication and characterization results of a novel 1.55 .tm DFB laser which use a strained4ayer multiiuantum-well active grating for mixed index/gain coupling are presented. High yield singlemode operations due to the gaincoup1ing effects have been obtained. Experimental results have been well interpreted and simulated by a transfer matrix theory.
