Abstract:The chaotic nature of x-ray free-electron-laser pulses is a major bottleneck that has limited the joint temporal and spectral resolution of spectroscopic measurements. We show how to use the stochastic x-ray field statistics to overcome this difficulty by correlation signals averaged over independent pulse realizations. No control is required over the spectral phase of the pulse, enabling immediate application with existing, noisy x-ray free-electron-laser pulses. The proposed stimulated Raman technique provid… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
