High‐Temperature Shear Strength and Bonding Mechanism of the Mullite Ceramic/Fiber Brick Component Joined by Phosphate Adhesive

Abstract: The mullite ceramic/fiber brick system was bonded by two kinds of phosphate adhesives. The specimens were treated from 200 to 1400°C. The mechanical properties were tested at room temperature and at high temperature, and the relevant bonding mechanism was also discussed. The results show that the addition of silicon can greatly improve the adhesive's mechanical properties. The room-temperature shear strength of the component bonded by adhesive with the silicon calcined at 800°C can reach 6.58 MPa. The shear st… Show more

“…Its RT-curing property was based on the polymerization reaction between matrix materials. 21 Bonded specimens were heat-treated at different temperatures ranging from 300 C to 1500 C in the air. Each bonded sample was calcined at a given temperature for 1 h. Their shear strength was tested at RT by the Electronic Universal Testing Machine (CSS-44001; Changchun, China) at a cross-head speed of 0.2 mm min À1 .…”

“…Volceanov et al [40] prepared zirconium phosphate adhesives for bonding magnesite refractory materials according to the ratios of P2O5/ZrO2 of 2.30, 1.15, and 0.77, and the bonding strength of three adhesives exceeds 5 MPa. Hao et al [41] prepared an aluminum phosphate adhesive using phosphoric acid and aluminum hydroxide as reaction sources modified with mullite and silica powder, and its bonding strength for mullite ceramics reached 6.58 MPa at 800℃. Among these types of phosphate adhesives, aluminum phosphate adhesive has been reported the most and widely used.…”
