“…The self‐healing behavior of MoSi 2 dispersed in YSZ/, and their oxidation behavior was studied at temperatures ranging from (1000‐1300)°C 12,13 . Zhu et al 14 investigated the crack‐healing behavior of MoSi 2 and (MoNb)Si 2, and the results of their research showed that the cracks can be healed through the formation of an oxide layer (SiO 2 ) on the surface of the specimens at high temperatures. Takahashi et al 15 investigated the self‐crack‐healing behavior of SiC/Al 2 O 3 composites.…”

“…Metal silicide, , such as WSi 2 , TiSi 2 , MoSi 2 , and their related alloy, presents excellent physical and chemical properties. For example, a properly alloyed MoSi 2 would show a high bending strength at room temperature as well as an anomalous strengthening at high temperature . Moreover, because of the formation of a sealed glassy film at high temperature, MoSi 2 -based coating could block the further inward diffusion of oxygen. It is worthwhile to note that MoSi 2 has a close thermal expansion coefficient (CTE, α MoSi2 = 8.0 × 10 –6 /°C) to niobium-based alloy (7.8–8.2 × 10 –6 /°C).…”

“…The key material issues are to improve the fracture toughness and high temperature strength [1][2][3] . The room temperature fracture toughness and high temperature strength of MoSi 2 can be improved by alloying and composite approaches [1][2][3][4]7,8 . Alloying promotes the dislocation plasticity in MoSi 2 at low temperatures and lowers the brittle−to−ductile transition temperature (BDTT) and results in an increase in room temperature fracture toughness [2][3][4]7 .…”

The effects of various alloying elements on the ductility of MoSi 2 single crystals are reported from first principles calculations 2,9 .…”
