High temperature Brillouin scattering study on elastic properties of lithium cesium borate glasses, crystals and melts

Abstract: The mixed alkali effect on elastic properties of lithium caesium borate glasses 0.25[xLi 2 O-(1-x) Cs 2 O]-0.75B 2 O 3 was studied by Brillouin scattering. The observed mixed alkali effect on the negative deviation from linearity in the composition dependence of longitudinal modulus was discussed on the basis of the decrease of four-fold coordinated boron atoms and the increase of nonbridging oxygens. The temperature dependence of elastic properties was studied in the large temperature range from room temperat… Show more

“…The negative deviation was observed from a linear dependence of the L in Figure 7c. A similar negative deviation was also observed in the mixed-cesium lithium borate glasses, 0.25{(1−y)Cs 2 O−yLi 2 O}−0.75B 2 O 3 [31]. These deviations show the enhancement of the change from the M + BØ 4 − to M + BOØ 2 − units caused by the appearance of dissimilar (CsLi) 2+ pairs.…”

“…In contrast, those for the LB glasses were estimated from a fitting curve based on the experimental data found in INTERGLAD, 45 as shown in Figure S2 of SI. The original references of the data are [51, 53, 61, 73, 79, 83, 85, 97–128, 129–138].…”

“…The scattered light is collimated and focused on the input pinhole of a Sandercock-type 3 + 3 pass tandem multi-pass FPI and detected by a photon-counting system. A compact IR furnace is connected to measure a sample at high temperatures [ 48 ]. For the measurements at low temperatures, a heating/cooling stage [ 49 ] or cryostat [ 50 ] is used.…”
