High Storage Density Optical Recording with a Stable Micro Green Second Harmonic Generation Laser Consisting of Nd:YVO4 and KTP

Abstract: A stable micro second harmonic generation (SHG) laser consisting of a diode- pumped Nd:YVO4 laser doubled by KTiOPO4 achieves 3 times higher storage density than usual on an erasable optical disk.

“…These recording results, as well as those reported using 532-nm lasers, 16 Stepper Motor Stage size and correspondingly higher power densities on the disk, higher blue laser powers are needed than in the infrared due to the rolloff in detector sensitivity. At 429-nm, laser output powers of 40-50 mW are desired for writing, and 2-6 mW are necessary for reading on properly desensitized disks.…”

“…NLO crystal also used as electro-optic modulators, sum frequency generators, Q-switching and optical parametric oscillators, optical storage devices and laser fusion [2,3]. Because of its potential applications, researchers trying to grow crystal with fewer defects, easy to grow large size, large second order non-linear coefficient with a capability to withstand high power laser.…”
