A visa-free policy is a tool for attracting foreign tourists, but existing studies evaluating its effects do not consider spatial spillover. This study, therefore, examined the effects of visa policies on urban inbound tourism with spatial spillover. This study used the implementation of the 72-hr visa-free transit policy in China as a natural experiment and employed a spatial difference-in-differences approach. The results show that the implementation of the 72-hr visa-free transit policy had no significant effect on the number of foreign tourists, but can reduce the average length of stay for foreign tourists. It also shows that there is a significant spatial spillover effect on the flow of foreign tourists. The results indicate the importance of spatial spillover in the evaluation of the impact of visa policy on inbound tourism, providing empirical evidence for further improving visa-free policies and urban tourism development.

Peer influence, market power, and enterprises' green innovation: Evidence from Chinese listed firms

In the era of a green economy, green innovation has become a way for enterprises to gain competitive advantage, and it is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the driving force of enterprises' green innovation. This study explores the peer effect of an enterprise's green innovation and conducts an empirical test using data from 3338 Chinese listed companies in 2020. The results show a significant positive peer effect of enterprises' green innovation, and the green innovation of individual enterprises increases by 0.869 for each unit increase in industry‐average green innovation. Further research shows that market power is the channel by which peer influence affects an enterprise's green innovation. Moreover, regional heterogeneity exists in the strength of the peer effect, which varies according to firm maturity and board size. These findings provide a reference for enterprises and governments to promote green transformation.

Official Turnovers and Economic Growth: Evidence from China

The positive interaction between economic growth and official turnover can promote high-quality and stable economic development. Using data from 275 prefecture-level cities in China from 2016 to 2020, this study applies a spatial panel simultaneous equation model to investigate the relationship between economic growth and official turnover, and reveals a two-way relationship. A city's economic growth (official turnover) promotes the growth (official turnover) of other cities in the same province but inhibits their official turnover (economic growth). Heterogeneity analysis by region shows a significant spillover effect of official turnover in one city on economic growth and official turnover in other cities in the same province in the central-eastern region, but not in the western region.
