Abstract:Gain-coupled DFB lasers with periodically etched quantum wells are reviewed as the device suitable for high-speed and uncooled operations. The importance of single-mode stability is discussed with aiming for new applications such as tunable lasers, optical generation of millimeter waves, and push-pull modulation.
