High scavenger receptor class B type I expression is related to tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis in breast cancer

Abstract: Scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) has been linked to the development and progression of breast cancer. However, its clinical significance in breast cancer remains unclear. Here, we evaluated SR-BI expression in a well-characterized breast cancer tissue microarray by immunohistochemistry. High SR-BI expression was observed in 54 % of all breast cancer cases and was significantly associated with advanced pTNM stage (P = 0.002), larger tumor size (P = 0.023), lymph node metastasis (P = 0.012), and the abs… Show more

“…High SR-B1 expression has been demonstrated in diverse cancer cell lines and patient tumor samples [79][80][81] and correlates with worse patient survival [82]. SR-B1 can promote tumor progression through three different mechanisms.…”

“…Twiddy et al (36) found that SR-BI downregulation caused a significant reduction in prostate-specific antigen production and decreased the viability of prostate cancer cell lines in vitro. Previous studies revealed that SR-BI was associated with more aggressive cancer phenotypes and could serve a tumor-promoting function in breast and prostate cancer (35,37). However, in gastric adenocarcinoma, the role of SR-BI appeared to be different.…”

“…The results of a previous study revealed that high SR-BI expression was an independent factor predictive of poor prognosis for patients with breast cancer (35). Schörghofer et al (37) reported that high SR-BI expression was associated with shorter disease-free survival times in prostate cancer.…”

“…15 The results showed that the expression of SR-B1 was highly up-regulated and SR-B1 functioned as an oncogene, promoting progression in these cancers. In addition, high SR-B1 expression was significantly associated with poor clinical outcome in breast cancer 12 and prostate cancer. 14 However, expression and clinical value of SR-B1 in ccRCC has not been well addressed so far.…”
