High resolution polarimeter-interferometer system for fast equilibrium dynamics and MHD instability studies on Joint-TEXT tokamak (invited)

Abstract: A high-performance Faraday-effect polarimeter-interferometer system has been developed for the J-TEXT tokamak. This system has time response up to 1 μs, phase resolution < 0.1° and minimum spatial resolution ∼15 mm. High resolution permits investigation of fast equilibrium dynamics as well as magnetic and density perturbations associated with intrinsic Magneto-Hydro-Dynamic (MHD) instabilities and external coil-induced Resonant Magnetic Perturbations (RMP). The 3-wave technique, in which the line-integrated Fa… Show more

“…The eddy current in the vacuum vessel decreases the field amplitude of 3/1 component to about 0.29 Gs/kA at plasma edge for fRMP = 5.3 kHz. In the experiment, the electron density is measured by multi-channel polarimeter-interferometer (POLARIS) [36], which views the plasma vertically by 14 channels with the impact positions ranging from R = 0.84 m to 1.29 m as shown in figure 2, and the spatial temporal resolution are 30 mm and 1 s. The electron density provided by the channel at/around R = 1.05 m is used to interpret the experimental results in the context.…”

“…For this reason, almost all other machines use wavelengths larger than 100 lm for poloidal polarimetry measurements. For example, ASDEX Upgrade uses the same k ¼ 195 lm deuterium cyanide (DCN) lasers for both interferometry and polarimetry, 32,33 and both EAST and J-TEXT use k ¼ 432:5 lm formic acid (HCOOH) FIR lasers for their combined polarimeter-interferometers (POINT on EAST 21 and POLARIS on J-TEXT 37 ).…”

“…Chen et al found that through the meta-analysis of amifostine, amifostine can reduce the incidence of radiation pneumonitis in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer receiving radiotherapy. However, regarding the dosage of amifostine and the long-term efficacy of the drug on patients after treatment, the impact on overall survival is unclear and needs further study [8].…”
