High‐resolution 3D radial bSSFP with IDEAL

Abstract: Radial trajectories facilitate high-resolution balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) because the efficient gradients provide more time to extend the trajectory in k-space. A number of radial bSSFP methods that support fat-water separation have been developed; however, most of these methods require an environment with limited B0 inhomogeneity. In this work, high-resolution bSSFP with fat-water separation is achieved in more challenging B0 environments by combining a 3D radial trajectory with the IDEAL c… Show more

“…The flexibility in the choice of the signal‐nulling time relative to the acquisition window is limited even if a full inversion of the fat magnetization were to be used. Fat saturation approaches better tailored to this free‐running mode may include spectral spatial excitations and fat water separation techniques , but these remain to be studied. For the former, an increase in TR with a lower duty cycle has to be considered while a significantly prolonged scanning time will be the result of the latter.…”

“…While test–retest of the CSE‐MRI shows it is a reliable method, this does not account for the cases where one of the image sets was severely motion corrupted. One potential solution is to use a radial water‐fat separation MRI technique which would be more motion robust . These radial techniques allow the images to be collected free‐breathing, which would allow collection of images with better SNR and increased resolution.…”

“…The set of all radial spokes is considered a composite sample set or pass (Figure C). The radial sampling pattern allows for a unique set of radial lines to be acquired in each echo (as opposed to the same lines acquired in Cartesian sampling), which, when combined with the efficient out and back trajectory and radial undersampling, leads to a 2 × improvement in sampling efficiency . In this work, we used 2 identical sample sets to demonstrate the technique.…”
