High-Rate Full-Diversity Space–Time–Frequency Codes for Broadband MIMO Block-Fading Channels

ABSTRACT-The MIMO technology towards achieving future generation broadband networks design criteria is presented. Typical next generation scenarios are investigated. The MIMO technology is integrated with the OFDM technology for effective space, time and frequency diversity exploitations for high speed outdoor environment. Two different OFDM design kernels (fast Fourier transform (FFT) and wavelet packet transform (WPT)) are used at the baseband for OFDM system travelling at terrestrial high speed for 800MHz and 2.6GHz operating frequencies. Results show that the wavelet kernel for designing OFDM systems can withstand doubly selective channel fading for mobiles speeds up to 280Km/hr at the expense of the traditional OFDM design kernel, the fast Fourier transform.

This paper provides a general diversity analysis for joint CDC and channel coding based space-time-frequency codes (STFCs) is provided.The mapping designs from channel coding to CDC are crucial for efficient exploitation of the diversity potential. This paper provides and proves a sufficient condition of full diversity construction with joint 3-D CDC and channel coding, bit-interleaved coded complex diversity coding (BICCDC) and symbol-interleaved coded complex diversity coding (SICCDC). Both non-iterative and iterative detection of joint channel code and CDC transmission are investigated. The proposed minimum mean square error based iterative soft decoding achieves the performance of the soft sphere decoding with reduced complexity.

Abstract-The effects of Rayleigh fading on a wireless communications link and MIMO technique to combat fading is explored in this paper. In harnessing spatial diversity, the use of QuasiOrthogonal space-time block code (QO-STBC) is proposed to combat fading. QO-STBC codes are able to achieve a unity rate with more than two antennas. The concept of constellation rotation for QO codes to maximize the available diversity is demonstrated. QO codes are shown by simulation to be able to achieve full diversity, despite the fact that the codes are nonorthogonal.
