“…This is a unique result from the above reports where the dopant to host ratio has been responsible for the colour tuning. Phantom T 2 MR images at 4.7 T were also exhibited, demonstrating that these Er 3+ ‐based NCs are promising MRI contrast agents . In this report the strongest upconverted emission intensity was observed by doping 30 % Yb 3+ in to NaErF 4 NCs, exemplifying the application for in cellulo fluorescence imaging with excellent signal‐to‐noise ratio .…”

“…Wang et al. have proposed kinetic and thermodynamic growth mechanisms of NaErF 4 nanocrystals (NCs) when synthesizing multi‐functional NaErF 4 NCs with different shapes through a hydrothermal method, adjusting the F − contents and reaction temperature . The emission colour coming from the upconversion process was easily tuneable from red to green when comparing a cubic vs. hexagonal phase.…”

“…Spins located near the surface tend to be slightly tilted, resulting in low magnetization value for small nanoparticles. Zeng et al reported the synthesis of NaErF 4 with different shapes and discussed the shape induced magnetic properties [177]. They speculated that the different shape anisotropy leads to the difference of magnetization, and consequently the rod-like morphology had highest magnetization.…”

“…There are three common cross-relaxation (CR) processes among Er 3+ that account for the enhancement of RGR in Yb 3+ /Er 3+ codoped system. The first CR effect is the long-accepted and most popular mechanism22242526. According to Capobianco et al .’s report26, the enhanced red UC emission was obtained owing to a CR process [Er 3+ : 4 F 7/2  +  4 I 11/2  →  4 F 9/2  +  4 F 9/2 ], which directly populates the 4 F 9/2 state.…”
