“…Compared with prior prevalence estimates in the general population, HbAS was more common in dialysis-dependent CKD (10.2% versus 6.5%-8.6%, P,0.001; versus 8.7%, P=0.02). 1,2,9,[15][16][17][18] Compared with AfricanAmerican dialysis patients, HbAS was more common than in the study by Hicks et al 18 (7.9%, P=0.003) and less common than in our prior study (14.9%, P=0.04). 9 HbAC in our cohort was more common compared with one population study (2.4% versus 1.7%, P=0.003), 17 but similar to other reports (2.2%-2.4%, P=NS), 1,2 and it was less prevalent than in our prior study of dialysis patients (2.4% versus 4.8%, P=0.04).…”
