“…30 Our estimates of IM and Hp prevalence (37.4% and 25.3%, respectively) are consistent with rates that were recently reported among Korean Americans in a national database of gastric biopsies (38.1% and 19.3%, respectively). 26 Our exploratory analyses indicate that IM and Hp increase markedly with age but otherwise differ in associated risk factors. We find that IM is more likely among males, particularly those currently infected with Hp, and intriguingly, among single or divorced individuals of either sex.…”

“…To address this need, we studied the acceptance of discounted‐cost UE among ethnic Koreans in northern New Jersey, the area with the highest density of Korean Americans. In addition, we sought to identify the characteristics associated biopsy findings of intestinal metaplasia (IM, which precedes dysplasia in the development of GC) and Helicobacter pylori (Hp), which are well‐known factors associated with GC …”

“…We then recalculated ORs and 95% CIs, adjusting for age and gender. Because gastric colonization with H. pylori varies by ethnicity (19) and the presence of H. pylori correlates inversely with CD, (20) we then additionally adjusted for H. pylori status using a multivariate model restricted to those individuals who had a concurrent gastric biopsy.…”

“…4 Pre-neoplastic lesions such as intestinal metaplasia and atrophy also show a similar trend. 5 The mean age of individuals with GED is about a decade younger than with gastric cancer (61.35 years for GED vs. 70 years for gastric carcinoma). 4 Male predominance is seen similar to cancer (M/F ¼ 1.9/1).…”
