“…Recently, Li's group treated the Pt/ TiO 2 catalyst with steam at high pressure to form a layer of bound H 2 O on the surface of Pt particles, which significantly weakened the strength between intermediates and Pt. 135 The HCHO oxidation rate of treated Pt/TiO 2 was 4.8 times than that of the pristine one due to the increasing amounts of hydroxyls. Hence, the hydroxyls on noble-metal-based catalysts play multiple roles in HCHO oxidation, which can provide adsorption sites for HCHO, act as electron transmitters, and form metal/hydroxyl interfaces for reactants.…”

“…Similarly, the hydroxyls at the Fe 3+ –OH–Pt interfaces also work well for CO oxidation, which readily reacted with the adsorbed CO species to directly yield CO 2 . “…Generally, during catalytic oxidation on Pt/CeO 2 , formaldehyde is successively converted to DOM, formate, CO species and finally turned into H 2 O and CO 2 . [48][49][50] The signals of the corresponding species can theoretically be observed in the spectra of Pt/CeO 2 (MOF) to analyze the HCHO oxidation mechanism.…”
