High pressure CO2photoreduction using Au/TiO2: unravelling the effect of co-catalysts and of titania polymorphs

Abstract: A series of Au/TiO2 based catalysts with low gold loading (0.1–0.5 wt%) were prepared by a modified deposition–precipitation method and their activity was tested for CO2 photoreduction in the liquid phase at high pressure (7 bar).

“…The innovative high pressure photoreactor used for activity testing has been described in detail elsewhere [39,41,42]. It is made of AISI 316 stainless steel with an axial UVA lamp (medium-pressure Hg vapour lamp with a range of emission wavelengths from 254 nm to 364 nm, nominal power 125 W) and a magnetic stirrer ensures proper liquid mixing.…”

“…No attention at all is instead paid to pressure. In the recent past we have developed a unique photoreactor for the photoreduction of CO2 able to operate up to 20 bar [37][38][39][40][41][42]. Even if an increase of pressure is not expected to favour directly the photoreforming, since it is a gas evolution reaction, occurring through an increase of the number of moles, this reactor allows the exploration of unconventional reaction conditions, e.g.…”

“…P25 and FSP-supported catalysts were prepared via wet impregnation (WI) [37]. The selected amount of metal precursor and titania were added to a round-bottom flask, distilled water was added, and the suspension was stirred for 2 h or until homogeneity.…”

“…The description of the photoreactor is reported elsewhere [60][61][62][63][64][65][66]. The total inner volume and net capacity are respectively 1.7 and 1.3 L. A cooling/heating jacked thermostatically controls the inner temperature, checked by a thermocouple.…”
