High-Power Design Challenges for Differential-Mode EV Universal Battery Supercharger

Abstract: Rapid widespread vehicle electrification has incentivized fast chargers to improve their performances. In this paper, an integrated-magnetic based differential mode Ĉuk rectifier (IM-DMCR) as a universal battery supercharger (UBS) is introduced. The design challenges associated with high power operation of IM-DMCR is outlined and optimized solutions are presented. A SiCbased full-scale 60-kW experimental prototype for the IM-DMCR is built and tested to verify the design.
