High Performance Vector Control of 3-Phase IM Drives under Open-Phase Fault Based on EKF for Rotor Flux Estimation

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel flux observer based on Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) for high performance vector control of 3-phase Induction Motor (IM) drives under stator winding open-phase fault. The presented flux estimation combines the Indirect Rotor Field-Oriented Control (IRFOC) method. The rotor flux is obtained from two modified EKF with two different stator currents (forward and backward stator currents). The proposed technique can significantly reduce the DC-offset problem on the pure integrator associa… Show more

“…The configuration will be referred to as the phase redundant topology. This circuit topology incorporates isolating THs and fuses in only three active legs of the inverter [18], [19], [20]. A spare fourth leg of the inverter is connected in place of the faulty phase-leg after the fault isolating devices have removed that that leg from the system.…”

“…As a result, the presented control method in [41] requires heavy real time computation and depends on 3-PIM parameters. In [42], FOC of a wye-connected 3-PIM under one-phase failure condition based on the Balanced Rotational Transformation Matrix (BRTM), has been proposed. It was shown in [42] using the conventional BRTM, the FOC equations of a wye-connected 3-PIM during open-phase failure can be written as forward and backward terms.…”

It was shown in [42] using the conventional BRTM, the FOC equations of a wye-connected 3-PIM during open-phase failure can be written as forward and backward terms. The structure of these two terms is similar to the healthy 3-PIM equations.…”
