High performance synchronous reluctance motor with multi-flux barrier for the appliance industry

Abstract: There was once little hope of improvingpe~ormance in a reluctance motor because of the considerably low efficiency and low power output. However, this has changed in recent years because of advances in power electronics and machining; reluctance motors have now become the focus of new studies. Research and development is pursuing two different tracks. One targets what is referred to as a switched reluctance motor which uses a pulse signal to drive a salient-pole rotor. The other targets a synchronous reluctance… Show more

“…On the other hand, the TLA rotor is produced by processing air barriers on silicon steel plates and stacking those pieces through the shaft. It has slightly weaker performance than the ALA rotor, but much simpler manufacture process and stronger mechanical strength [5]. Due to these considerations, the optimization will be based on the TLA rotor type.…”

“…of UMs. Permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machines (PMaSynRMs) are becoming an alternative to these motors in home appliance industry [1]. These motors are also comparable to IMs in industrial applications because of their less rotor volume, low cost and higher power density [2].…”
