Hard carbon anodes are the most promising candidates for sodium-ion batteries due to lower sodium-embedded platform and higher specific capacity. However, pure hard carbon carbons usually show very low initial coulombic efficiency, low electronic conductance, et al. Herein, hard carbon-soft carbon (HC-SC) composites composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) blooming on porous hard carbon, which were synthesized through thermal decomposition of zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite. This unique structure could greatly promote the sodium-ion diffusion and electron transport due to the increased electrode/ electrolyte contact area and enlarged pores. As expected, the HC-SC delivers a high capacity (306.8 mAh g À 1 at 500 mA g À 1), impressive cycling stability (256.8 mAh g À 1 after 1000 cycles) and enhanced rate performance (144.9 mAh g À 1 at 20 C), which are far superior to those of both individual hard carbon and soft carbon. This encouraging performance may benefit from the synergistic effect of the modified defect concentration and interlayer distance in hard carbon by soft carbon, as well as the unique hierarchical structure. This work provides an exemplary strategy to develop optimized carbon materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Synergistic effect is an effective strategy for improving the flame retardancy of epoxy resin (EP). In this work, a novel graphene oxide-cobalt nickel phosphate (GO-NiCoPO 3) is successfully synthesized, which is incorporated into an EP matrix for preparing EP/GO-NiCoPO 3 nanocomposites. The results show that the limiting oxygen index value of EP/ 4GO-NiCoPO 3 nanocomposites is as high as 30.3%, and UL-94 can reach V-1 rating. The results of micro-combustion calorimetry indicate that the total heat release value and peak of heat release rate of EP/8GO-NiCoPO 3 nanocomposites are decreased by 41.9 and 23.8% compared with those of pure EP. This is mainly due to the synergistic barrier effect of GO and NiCoPO 3 , which together have their own advantages. Meanwhile, EP/GO-NiCoPO 3 nanocomposites can form a dense char layer during the burning process and improve the thermal stability of EP/GO-NiCoPO 3 nanocomposites.

Activated carbon is widely used as an electrode material in supercapacitors due to its superior electrochemical stability, excellent electrical conductivity, and environmental friendliness. In this study, the self-discharge mechanisms of activated carbon electrodes loaded with different contents of Fe impurities (Fe and Fe3O4) were analyzed by multi-stage fitting to explore the tunability of self-discharge. It is was found that a small quantity of Fe impurities on carbon materials improves the self-discharge performance dominated by redox reaction, by adjusting the surface state and pore structure of carbon materials. As the content of Fe impurities increases, the voltage loss of activated carbon with the Fe impurity concentrations of 1.12 wt.% (AF-1.12) decreases by 37.9% of the original, which is attributable to the reduce of ohmic leakage and diffusion, and the increase in Faradic redox at the electrode/electrolyte interface. In summary, self-discharge performance of carbon-based supercapacitors can be adjusted via the surface state and pour structure, which provides insights for the future design of energy storage.
