High-output-voltage single-phase UPS based on series connection of low-output-voltage modular UPS

Abstract: Critical loads are usually provided by sources of uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Such devices have output voltages equivalent to levels found in commercial power grids. However, when high output voltages are required there is still no standard solution to achieve the desired level of voltage. This paper presents a proposal for developing a high-output-voltage single-phase UPS. This proposal is based on the series connection of several single-phase modules, which are compact, commercially available and of … Show more

“…Outro método com comunicação empregado é o controle distribuído, o qual agrega mais robustez e redundância do que comparativamente as de controle central e mestre-escravo, assim como melhor resposta dinâmica [1], [15]. A ausência de uma hierarquia vertical viabiliza que o controle das correntes de fase sejam computadas localmente, tendo como base uma referência comum aos circuitos conectados em paralelo.…”

“…Conventional balancing method is inefficient and slow, because output power is only controlled proportionally accordance with SOC of each module. However, algorithm is proposed to faster SOC difference balance by compensation according to magnitude order of SOC of modules, even if SOC difference among the batteries is large [3] [4].…”

“…The architecture employs a multiple-winding transformer, which connects the outputs of the H-bridge modular converters via a magnetic connection. Magnetic elements such as multiple-winding transformers or electric machines with open-end winding as well as split windings present interesting characteristics [15]- [17] which can be used in UPS systems [18], [19] and drives. The inverter can also provide multilevel output voltage and fault tolerance when an appropriate modulation is used [20].…”
