High Molecular Weight Biosurfactants from Mild Chemical Reactions of Fermented Municipal Biowastes

Abstract: Two hydrolysates obtained from anaerobic digestate and compost of a municipal bio‐waste treatment plant have been ozonizated at room temperature. This reaction yields two main products: biopolymers (30 % yield) whith molecular weights ranging from 100 to over 750 kDa, exhibiting remarkable surfactant properties, and small molecules with molecular weight ≤0.2⊥⊥kDa. The ozonised biopolymers have significantly different molecular weight distribution and much better surfactant properties compared to the pristine b… Show more

“…Particularly interesting in the red pepper study [22] was the trend of the leaf chlorophyll content and crop production, both showing a peak at 140 kg/ha CVD SBS applied to the soil. The same trend was observed for the photodegradation of organic pollutants in the presence of different concentrations of SBS [27,28]. In this case, the provided explanation was that the added SBS to the polluted waste water catalysed the photo degradation of the organic pollutant up to a peak added content.…”

“…By virtue of its organic acid and basic groups, the CVDF kept Fe ions in solution at circumneutral pH. These were inferred responsible for the photosensitizing properties of SBS [21,27,28].…”

“…2B), which represents the typical real and most feasible operational environment for scaling up and integrating the chemical hydrolysis SBO production process with the plant fermentation facilities and for the in house use of SBO. 21 The factory provides services for the local population of 800000 inhabitants including separate source collection and treatment of solid biodegradable wastes and sewage waste water. It features four sections.…”

“…The membrane retentate was dried at 60 °C to yield the solid ADMBW BP. This product was dissolved in pH 10 water and oxidised by bubbling a 4% ozone-oxygen stream through the aqueous solution for 64 h [14]. During this time, the solution pH 10 was maintained by KOH addition.…”
