High Homogeneity of Magnesium Doped LiNbO3 Crystals Grown by Bridgman Method

Abstract: A series of LiNbO3 crystals doped with various MgO concentrations (0, 3%, and 5 mol%) was simultaneously grown in one furnace by the modified vertical Bridgman method. The wet chemistry method was used to prepare the polycrystalline powders, and the growth conditions were optimized. The full width at half maximum of high-resolution X-ray rocking curves for (001) reflection of 5 mol% Mg doped lithium niobate (LN) crystal was about 8″, which meant it possessed high crystalline quality. The OH− absorption spectra… Show more

“…[35,[37][38][39][40] When doped with Mg ions, which are typical optical-damage-resistant impurities for the LN, the Nb antisites are substituted by Mg 2+ . This suppresses the formation of bipolarons, [41,42] leading to a reduced amount of photocarriers. Figure 1c,d presents the currentvoltage behaviors of the CLN and LN:Mg PDs with (green line) and without (black line) 532 nm laser illumination.…”

“…By annealing in air (1500 °C, 10 h), the color centers can be removed in this work. It is worth mentioning that annealing after crystal growth is determined to be a significant way to remove color centers produced from point defects of lattice or the atmospheric contamination, and crystal growth methods such as OFZ, VB, [ 26 ] and EFG method. [ 20 ] Above crystal growth methods are generally attributable to melt method, that is, the formation of crystal surface was caused by the temperature difference of solid–liquid interface, color centers, or inclusions easily introduced.…”
