High fat diet reduces the expression of miRNA‐29b in heart and increases susceptibility of myocardium to ischemia/reperfusion injury

Abstract: Several studies have shown the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in myocardial dysfunction in response to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). In this study, we investigated the impact of high fat (HF) diet in the myocardial susceptibility to I/R injury, as well as in the expression of miRNA‐29b. Isolated heart experiments using the ex vivo Langendorff perfusion model were used to induce cardiac I/R injury. HF diet‐induced cardiac hypertrophy and impaired cardiac functional recovery after I/R. miRNA‐29b, which targets Col1, w… Show more

“…[16][17][18] In many models of myocardial ischemic injury, miRNA expression alters across different species from miRNAs, indicating that miRNAs play a key role in myocardial ischemic injury. 19,20 Prior study has noted the overexpression of miR-126 relieved acute myocardial ischemia Figure 5. Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor B2 (LILRB2) silence stressed the repressive functions of miR-377 on hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) myocardial injury.…”

“…miRNAs participate in the regulation of various biological processes, including cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and cell survival . There is some evidence to suggest that miRNA expression changed the across different species from miRNAs in many models of myocardial I/R injury, demonstrating the pivotal role of miRNAs in myocardial ischemic injury . It has been proposed that miR‐27 regulates cell differentiation in many diseases .…”

“…In a review by Kura et al (47), different dietary components such as vitamin D, selenium, and vitamin E impacted blood and cardiac miRNAs that are associated with decreased cardiovascular disease. A high fat diet is associated with decreased miRNA-29b expression in the heart and increases susceptibility to heart injury (48). Dietary compounds have also been shown to change the miRNA expression in skin in patients with psoriasis, helping with treatment of this disease (49).…”
