High expression of TRIM44 is associated with enhanced cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and resistance to doxorubicin in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Dysregulation of TRIM44 has been reported to be involved in tumorigenesis, but its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. In the present study, we investigated the clinicopathological and biological significance of TRIM44 in HCC. We found that TRIM44 mRNA and protein expression was upregulated in HCC compared with matched normal tissues. Intriguingly, we also found that TRIM44 expression was significantly correlated with tumor size (P < 0.001), vascular invasion (P < 0.001), intrahepatic metas… Show more

“…Published studies have also reported that increased TRIM44 expression promoted cell migration and invasion in NSCLC and hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating key components of EMT . We therefore investigated whether TRIM44 similarly mediated EMT to promote cell migration and invasion in HEC cell lines.…”

“…TRIM44 overexpression facilitates cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, testicular germ cell tumors, and non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) . In addition, knocking down endogenous TRIM44 expression inhibits proliferation and motility in cancer cells . Moreover, TRIM44 has been identified as an independent prognostic marker in patients with different types of cancer .…”

“…A previous study indicated that a high expression of TRIM44 was associated with poor prognosis and that TRIM44 may be involved in cell proliferation, migration, and anti-apoptotic effects in testicular germ cell tumors (7). Zhu et al (4) demonstrated that the overexpression of TRIM44 enhanced the invasive and migratory capacities of hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Kashimoto et al (5) suggested that TRIM44 may be crucial in tumor cell proliferation through its overexpression, and indicated its usefulness as a predictor and potential therapeutic target in gastric cancer.…”

“…Studies have suggested that TRIM44 may have an oncogenic role in the invasion and metastases of several types of human cancer, including prostate cancer (3), hepatocellular carcinoma (4), gastric carcinoma (5), non-small cell lung cancer (6) and testicular germ cell tumors (7). However, at present, the precise function of TRIM44 and its underlying carcinogenic mechanism in ovarian cancer remain to be fully elucidated.…”

“…Palmbos et al reported that TRIM29 overexpression in invasive bladder cancer was associated with poor prognosis (Palmbos et al, 2015). In HCC, the expression of several TRIM proteins, such as TRIM44 and TRIM26, was able to predict the overall survival of patients Zhu et al, 2016). The upregulation of TIMR65 in lung cancer was reported to be correlated with unfavorable outcome (Wang et al, 2016).…”
