High Emission Quantum Yield Tb3+‐Activated Organic‐Inorganic Hybrids for UV‐Down‐Shifting Green Light‐Emitting Diodes

Abstract: Solid-state light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are driving the lighting industry towards efficient and environmentally friendly lighting and displays. Current challenges encompass efficient and low-cost down-shifting phosphors with tuned emission colors. Green light lies on the low-loss optical transmission window in plastic optical fibers and plays a special role in the regulation of the human and plant circadian rhythms. Moreover, green-emitting phosphors may suppress the "green gap" found in semiconductor-based L… Show more

“…We should note that the modifications in the processing routine (relative to previously reported ones in order to control viscosity and deposition methods) did not induce any significant changes in the optical features of the material (Supplementary Figure S2 in the Supplementary Material) (Correia et al, 2015;Correia et al, 2016;Correia et al, 2018;Ramalho et al, 2020). Minor changes in the energy and relative intensity were previously assigned to the solvent evaporation rate (Pecoraro et al, 2008;Graffion et al, 2011;Correia et al, 2020). Nevertheless, the Eu 3+ local coordination remains the same as the energy of the 5 D 0 → 7 F 0-4 transitions and analogous 5 D 0 lifetime values were measured (Ramalho et al, 2020), independently of the processing (Supplementary Figure S2 in the Supplementary Material).…”

“…In addition, recent studies have highlighted the potential of organic–inorganic fluorescent materials containing Ln III for use in LED devices as light-converting materials [ 91 , 92 ]. However, there is limited research on the utilization of Ln organic complexes for UCL in LEDs.…”

“…1,2 Their enhanced luminescence properties result from a photosensitization effect based on energy transfer (EnT) from organic ligands to Tb( iii ). 3 Designing ligands strategically for achieving effective photosensitized emission from Tb( iii ) complexes is crucial in advancing applications for luminescent materials, including light-emitting diodes, 4–7 sensors, 1,8–13 and security inks. 14–16…”
