The aim of the research was to investigate the effect of biogas plant waste on the physiological activity, growth, and yield of Jerusalem artichoke and the energetic usefulness of the biomass obtained in this way after the torrefaction process. The use of waste from corn grain biodigestion to methane as a biofertilizer, used alone or supplemented with Apol-humus and Stymjod, caused increased the physiological activity, growth, and yield of Jerusalem artichoke plants and can limit the application of chemical fertilizers, whose production and use in agriculture is harmful for the environment. The experiment, using different equipment, exhibited the high potential of Jerusalem artichoke fertilized by the methods elaborated as a carbonized solid biofuel after the torrefaction process. The use of a special design of the batch reactor using nitrogen, Thermogravimetric analysis, Differential thermal analysis, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and combustion of Jerusalem artichoke using TG-MS showed a thermo-chemical conversion mass loss on a level of 30% with energy loss (torgas) on a level of 10%. Compared to research results on other energy crops and straw biomass, the isothermal temperature of 245 °C during torrefaction for the carbonized solid biofuel of Jerusalem artichoke biomass fertilized with biogas plant waste is relativlely low. An SEM-EDS analysis of ash from carbonized Jerusalem artichoke after torrefaction was performed after its combustion.

An increase in plant productivity and the limitation of environmental pollution through the use of natural fertilizers are becoming the most important issues in contemporary sustainable agriculture. Therefore, the purpose of the research was to demonstrate the effect of Jerusalem artichoke ash, used alone or together with biopreparations and biogas plant waste, on the growth and physiological activity of sorghum and to show their applicability as an alternative to chemical fertilization. The sorghum plants, cultivated in Central and North Poland, were fertilized with the YaraMila Complex, a chemical fertilizer (0, 150, 300 kg ha-1) and each concentration was supplemented with Jerusalem artichoke ash (0-4 t ha-1), applied separately or together with Apol-Humus (10 L ha-1), biogas plant waste (30 m 3 ha-1) and Stymjod (5 L ha-1). Within each YaraMila Complex addition, the all ash doses (preferably 2-4 t ha-1), biopreparations and biogas plant waste significantly enhanced plant growth, biomass yield, chlorophyll content, gas exchange (net photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO 2 concentration), enzyme activity (acid and alkaline phosphorylase, RNase, dehydrogenase) and slightly enhanced the content of the measured elements in plants and their energy properties. The ash applied together with a lower than recommended amount of YaraMila Complex (0 or 150 kg ha-1) increased plant development slightly more than twice the dose of YaraMila Complex used alone (150 or 300 kg ha-1 , respectively). This demonstrates that the studied ash can serve as a natural fertilizer and may halve the recommended chemical fertilizer doses. Due to the common trend towards limitation of excessive use of chemicals in agriculture, there is a growth of interest in methods of seed quality improvement that would be safe for the environment. These include methods based on the effect of various physical factors, such as laser light, magnetic field, seed treatment with magnetized water, electric field. The work provides detailed information on the impact of seed stimulation of these factors on germination, growth, development and yielding of horticultural plants. Summarizing the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of physical factors in appropriate doses can be an effective way to enhance many plant parameters that increase their productivity. The beneficial effects of seed stimulation are mainly related to the first stages of plant life, i.e. – germination, emergence and growth of seedlings. In many cases, the enhancement of these features is also the result of the increase of plant yields. The increase of yield is even several dozen percent. The results of the study encourage the implementation of these physical methods of seed quality improvement into agricultural and horticultural practice.
