This research paper proposes a novel bridgeless single-stage isolated converter with power factor correction and load voltage control. The proposed converter reduces the input diode bridge requirement with reduced passive components and provides a unidirectional flow of power to the load. The single-stage design reduces the use of an electrolytic capacitor, which improves reliability and reduces the size of the converter. The proposed control method is based on a single proportional integral (PI) controller to achieve both power factor correction and input current control. The proposed bridgeless converter is suitable for electric vehicle (EV) charging. A simulation study is performed on the MATLAB/Simulink to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter. The converter is implemented in the laboratory to obtain the experimental results using typhoon hardware in the loop (HIL) based real time simulator.

Summary This study presents the design of single‐stage driver for light‐emitting diode (LED) tube lamp with input current shaping for T8‐type fluorescent lamp replacements. An AC‐DC LED driver integrates a pulse width modulation converter for converting ac to dc with power factor (PF) correction and current regulation. The operational principles and design considerations are explained for T8‐type 18 W LED tube lamp with a grid input voltage of 230 V. The experimental results for the prototype driver show the lowest input current total harmonic distortion (14%) and highest circuit efficiency (98%) at a rated input voltage of 230 V. Both simulation and experimental results are discussed in detail. This LED driver is suitable for energy‐efficient indoor lighting and pathway street lighting applications. The input PF and current distortion are within the acceptable limits of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.

A Single-Stage LED Tube Lamp Driver with Power-Factor Corrections and Soft Switching for Energy-Saving Indoor Lighting Applications

This paper presents a single-stage alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) light-emitting diode (LED) tube lamp driver for energy-saving indoor lighting applications; this driver features power-factor corrections and soft switching, and also integrates a dual buck-boost converter with coupled inductors and a half-bridge series resonant converter cascaded with a bridge rectifier into a single-stage power-conversion topology. The features of the presented driver are high efficiency (>91%), satisfying power factor (PF > 0.96), low input-current total-harmonic distortion (THD < 10%), low output voltage ripple factor (<7.5%), low output current ripple factor (<8%), and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) obtained on both power switches. Operational principles are described in detail, and experimental results obtained from an 18 W-rated LED tube lamp for T8/T10 fluorescent lamp replacements with input utility-line voltages ranging from 100 V to 120 V have demonstrated the functionality of the presented driver suitable for indoor lighting applications.
